Domee Shi

Domee Shi (石之予, Shí Zhīyǔ, born September 8, 1989) is a Chinese-born Canadian animator, director, and screenwriter. She is known for her work with Pixar.

• Early Life and Education: Born in Chongqing, China, Shi immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of two. She developed an early interest in art, drawing inspiration from manga and animation. She attended Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, where she studied animation.

• Pixar Career: Shi began her career at Pixar in 2011 as an intern. She worked as a story artist on several films, including Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Toy Story 4, and Incredibles 2.

• Bao: Shi wrote and directed the Pixar short film Bao, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2018 and was released theatrically with Incredibles 2. Bao won the <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Academy%20Award%20for%20Best%20Animated%20Short%20Film">Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film</a> at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019. This made her the first woman of color to direct a Pixar short.

• Turning Red: Shi directed and co-wrote the Pixar feature film Turning Red, released in March 2022. The film is a coming-of-age story about a Chinese-Canadian girl who transforms into a red panda when she experiences strong emotions. Turning Red received critical acclaim for its unique storytelling, cultural representation, and animation style. Directing <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Turning%20Red">Turning Red</a> made her the first woman to solely direct a Pixar feature film.

• Themes and Style: Shi's work often explores themes of family, culture, and identity. She incorporates elements of her Chinese heritage into her stories.
